Sleeping Princess Trail, Kingman, AZ

While we have been on the Rubicon Trail in july, 2014, I discussed with Wayne, whether we could setup a trail run to do Sleeping Princess and Moss Wash near Kingman, AZ. Wayne said, I should just let him know, when we would be there and then we will do this trails. I posted them up at Offroadpassport and Mike and his friends registered to join us on this trails. On march, 7th we met Wayne at the Pilot/Flying J Truck Stop in Kingman, AZ. Mike and his friends wanted to join us at the trail head and Brad, a friend of Wayne, also planned to join us there. So we fueled up and drove on AZ68 to the Sleeping Princess trailhead at around 11S733744/3897595 (UTM/NAD27). Besides Sleeping Princess, we also tackled the Bob Miller extension and Hell´s Half Mile as extra credit options.

After the pictures below, there are a couple of videos, too. They had been taken from the big obstacle on Hell´s Half Mile.

We met off AZ68 at the staging area.

We followed an easy gravel road...

...until we reached the sign, which indicated the start of the trail.
We followed the still easy trail and enjoyed the vicinity.

We followed this narrow trail until we had been back on the main trail.
After a short distance, we stopped...
...and hiked first the next extra credit section, Hell´s Half Mile.
Some nice rocks on the way up.
Wayne started and we all followed him.
This was a lot of rock crawling with a lot of dings and dangs under the jeep.
After some time, we reached the main obstacle.
Wayne showed us, how to line up. He prefered to go up on the right side.
It took a couple of tries, but finally, Wayne made it up without any big issues.
For some reason, I was not able to choose the same line, as a big rock behind me, did not allow me to find a good starting position for my longer wheelbase rig. Finally, I skipped that line and went up on the left side of the obstacle, which worked just fine with some expert spotting from Wayne, Brad, Mike and Mike 2.
After I was up, I parked the jeep to watch the other colleageus...
Brad was the next.
He tried it first on the left side, like me, but somehow that did not work.
Finally, he made it up on the right side like Wayne. Mike and Mike 2 also went up on the right side of the obstacle.
After a nice lunch break, we continued on our way and had been back on the main trail.
We went up some nice gravel road to some kind of a pass.
After we had been up, we stopped and enjoyed the view, which was incredible from here.

The next section, which was in front of us, was a shale kind of road, going up that mountain. I would not like to go up there, when it is wet. That road was very step and traction could become a problem.
We went up that step road and stopped at an overlook.
Again, we had outstanding views from here.

We followed an easy road...
...until we met a lesser trail, which went.to the left towards an abandoned homestead.
We parked and hiked the last portion.
We enjoyed that stop and went back to the main trail.
From there we headed out to civilization.
